Movie Screening

20 January 2026, National Portrait Gallery

11:00 am - 1:00 pm

If you’d like a break from playing chess then why not watch a movie about chess?

Join us at the Liangis Theatre at the National Portrait Gallery for a screening of Searching for Bobby Fischer.

Searching for Bobby Fischer is a 1993 movie about the early years of chess prodigy Joshua Waitzkin, based on a book written by his father. Commonsense media suggest that it is suitable for children 8 years and older, though we’d recommend you read their full review.

This event is free of charge and the gallery will be open at this time for those of you who might want to explore the gallery, cafe or gift shop.
