  • National Portrait Gallery

    The National Portrait Gallery has a mission to “reflect the face of Australia, tell Australian stories and increase understanding and appreciation of Australian people through the art of portraiture – their identity, history, culture, creativity and diversity.”

    Located a short drive or bus trip from the championship venue, it is well worth a visit to explore the portraits.

  • National Gallery of Australia

    The National Gallery of Australia is located right next door to the National Portrait Gallery and houses the national collection, which comprises over 155,000 works of art, including the world’s largest collection of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander art.

  • Questacon

    Australia’s National Science and Technology Centre hosts a range of interactive exhibits and is always a popular destination for families visiting Canberra.

    Tickets are required and Questacon recommends booking in advance to guarantee a visit.

  • National Arboretum

    The National Arboretum Canberra is a mosaic of living forests and gardens offering breathtaking views, unique experiences, and a world-class entertainment and events hub including the award-winning Margaret Whitlam Pavilion and the popular Village Centre.

    With over 44,000 rare and endangered trees across a 250-hectare site, the Arboretum is a place of beauty, conservation, science research, education, tourism and recreation.

    The Pod Playground at the Arboretum is one of the most popular playgrounds in Canberra.

  • Flight Drone SkyShow + Night Markets

    FLIGHT: Drone SkyShow + Night Markets is an event held by The National Capital Authority on the Australia Day weekend. 

    There will be two different 15-minute drone shows on the 24th, 25th and 26th of January at 9:00pm and 10:00pm. Look to the skies for breathtaking light displays, illumination effects, cutting edge drone choreography, immersive music, and storytelling that reflects, respects, and celebrates the evolving story of our nation.  

  • Sunset Cinema at the National Botanic Gardens

    Over summer there are a range of movies screening at a Sunset Cinema at the Australian National Botanic Gardens. Grab something to eat from one of the food trucks.

    Make sure to bring a picnic blanket or visit the website to book a Beanbag with your ticket.

  • Canberra Glassworks

    The Canberra Glassworks is a short walk from East Hotel (and a slightly longer walk from St Edmund’s).

    It is the largest glass making facility in the Southern Hemisphere dedicated to studio glass. You can see amazing contemporary glass art exhibitions, watch artists at work in the Hotshop, wander through a self-guided tour of the facility, take a class, explore the history of the building, and buy a unique hand-made item in the Gallery Shop.

    Brodburger, a well-known great burger restaurant is adjacent.

  • Parliament House

    The meeting place of the Parliament of Australia, Parliament House is an amazing building to visit.
